Boston Jewelry Photographer

My passion as a jewelry photographer lies in elevating the images of everyone I work with, from national brands to start ups.

It’s the 1980’s, three little girls are laying on the floor of their home in the suburbs of Boston on coastal New Hampshire (yeah, parts of N.H. are Boston suburbs). In front of them are the behemoth catalogs from JCPenney and Macy’s, open to the jewelry section. After each page flip, the girls pick out their favorite pieces.

The oldest girl usually went for the sapphires. The youngest, she was an amethyst girl. The middle child, well, she needs the most time. She would deeply stare into the images and dissect every detail of the jewelry photography. Inevitably, she picked the biggest and most sparkling piece on the page, regardless of the stone.

It comes as no surprise that as I evolved as a photographer, I gravitated towards photographing jewelry and obsessively learned the delicate art of becoming a jewelry photographer.

Being a jewelry photographer isn’t just snapping a photo, it’s hopping on a plane and traveling to set up temporary studios in offices to ensure the safety of high-value jewelry. It’s directing models on how to move and pose just right, so the facets don’t flare out and the stones look deep.  It’s consulting new businesses on the best practices and photos to include in their website photography and helping them plan, cast and execute their dream website into reality.

FAQ

Do you have a studio?

Yes, my private photo studio is about 45 minutes to an hour north of downtown Boston in picturesque Portsmouth, NH.

Do you offer remote shooting?

With over 2/3 of my clients scattered around the US, I offer remote shooting to any who choose it.

We’ll connect via video call, text messages or email (depending on the level of participation you want) throughout the shoot. Clients chime in with idea’s, feedback and approval in real time so we don’t waste a moment.

Want to come in? Great! I love having clients in person too!

Can I get RAW files?

I shoot tethered most of the time because it allows clients can see every image I take, but it also means I will need to do some work on each file after the shoot to ensure it still looks as awesome as it did when you saw it on set.

How much will a photoshoot cost?

Your project is unique and you shouldn’t pay for anything you don’t need. Each of my quotes are based on the same factors (time + costs + use).

Once we have a list of the number of images to shoot and something to illustrate what they should look like, I’ll calculate specifically for you what that would cost to create. That said, I’m always happy to give a ballpark rage for a price if ideas are still being developed.

What are the "costs" for jewelry photography?

Costs are everything you see in the photo (and whatever time it took to get those items/people ready). That could be location rentals, talent like models, props & wardrobe, food for everyone, etc.
